LSG&A has more than 65 years of experience in the field of acoustics. Personnel maintain technical knowledge through professional societies including the Acoustical Society of America; Institute of Noise Control Engineering; American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers; ASTM International; American Society of Mechanical Engineers; National Society of Professional Engineers; The Society for College and University Planning; and the Transportation Research Board. Members of the firm have served as consultants to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the United States National Bureau of Standards (now National Institute of Standards and Technology), Federal Highway Administration, and the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.
LSG&A has licensed Professional Engineers and an INCE Board Certified member on staff, and staff members have been approved as noise experts under the NYC DEP noise code.
Matthew T. Murello, P.E.
Mr. Murello became president of Lewis S. Goodfriend & Associates in 2002. He provides consulting services and expert testimony for clients in the areas of architectural acoustics, environmental and industrial noise impact and control, transportation noise assessment and control, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) acoustics.
Mr. Murello has served as consultant to numerous municipalities, mining and utility companies and pharmaceutical companies on a wide variety of projects. He has also carried out noise surveys of major airports and performed noise control evaluations for numerous schools around major airports including remediation design. He has also provided consultation on many architectural acoustics projects for churches, schools colleges and music and lecture halls.
Mr. Murello is a member of the Acoustical Society of America; Institute of Noise Control Engineering; American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers; National Society of Professional Engineers; and the Transportation Research Board. He is a member of the Technical Committee for ASHRAE’s TC2.6 Sound & Vibration.
Mr. Murello earned his Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Hartford in 1993. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Massachusetts, South Carolina, Florida, and Connecticut.
Jack A. Zybura, P.E., INCE Bd. Cert.
Mr. Zybura provides consulting engineering services for a diverse range of projects, including the acoustical design of interior spaces, evaluation and control of noise and vibration from mechanical equipment, OSHA noise exposure studies, sound and impact isolation design and testing, and acoustical assessments for industrial, commercial, and residential facilities. He is also experienced in the acoustical aspects of LEED design for new construction, commercial interiors, schools, and healthcare facilities and the DHUD requirements for evaluating and mitigating transportation noise near residential buildings. In addition to developing spreadsheet-based models of an acoustical environment, Mr. Zybura is well-versed in SoundPLAN noise modeling software to analyze complex outdoor sites.
Mr. Zybura is a member of the Acoustical Society of America (ASA); Institute of Noise Control Engineering (INCE); American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME); and ASTM International. He is a member of the ASTM E33 commitee on Building and Environmental Acoustics, serving as Membership Secretary for E33 and as Vice-Chairman for the E33.07 subcommitee. He also serves on the executive board for the New Jersey Section of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA).
Mr. Zybura received his degree in Acoustical Engineering and Music from the University of Hartford in 2009. He is INCE Board Certified and is a licensed Professional Engineer in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Oregon.
Lewis S. Goodfriend, P.E.
Lewis S. Goodfriend served as President of Lewis S. Goodfriend & Associates from 1953 to 2002. He is a Consulting Engineer serving clients in the areas of architectural acoustics; noise assessment and control programs for industry, communities, and airports; air conditioning noise control and product development.
Mr. Goodfriend is a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America and the Audio Engineering Society. He is a Past President and former Member of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Noise Control Engineering, Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and a Member of the Consulting Engineers Council, the American Industrial Hygiene Association, and American Society for Testing and Materials, and served on the Board of Trustees of Stevens Institute of Technology. Mr. Goodfriend also served as Editor of The Journal of the Audio Engineering Society, Noise Control, a publication of the Acoustical Society of America, Sound and Vibration Magazine Noise Control Engineering and of the Noise Control Engineering Journal of the Institute of Noise Control Engineering.
From 1969 to 1972, Mr. Goodfriend served as Vice President of Zurn Industries, Inc., and of Zurn Environmental Engineers.
Mr. Goodfriend received his degree in Mechanical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology in 1947 and his Master of Electrical Engineering degree from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in 1952.
