Meridian Crossing Apartments

Lewis S. Goodfriend & Associates completed an acoustical analysis for ten apartment buildings to satisfy the Department of Housing and Urban Development (DHUD) FHA mortgage application requirements. Nearby sound sources included aircraft from a nearby civilian and military airport, and an adjacent Norfolk Southern freight train route. While most of the buildings were found to have an acceptable acoustical environment by DHUD guidelines, a few buildings adjacent to the railroad track were found to be normally unacceptable. Recommendations were made to improve the sound isolation provided by the facades of these building, resulting in an acceptable acoustical environment. LSG&As acoustical report and supporting documentation helped to get all ten apartment buildings approved for FHA mortgage eligibility.


State Theatre at New Brunswick

Lewis S. Goodfriend & Associates completed an acoustical analysis of the proposed HVAC system for the State Theatre in New Brunswick. Engineers from LSG&A visited the site to measure the existing sound pressure levels in the theatre, to assist in developing acoustical design goals for the space. The proposed HVAC system was evaluated with respect to meeting or improving the existing acoustical environment in the space. LSG&A provided sound and vibration control recommendations to meet the acoustical design criteria.


PEI Power Cogeneration Plant

Lewis S. Goodfriend & Associates completed an acoustical evaluation of the one of the nation's largest landfill gas to energy power plant in Archibald, PA. PEI Power Corporation, a subsidiary of Pennsylvania Enterprises, Inc. (PEI) has recently brought online two new Solar mercury 50 gas turbines, each capable of generating 4.6 MW of power. According to PEI, the new turbines expect to be able to generate enough electricity from landfill gas to power over 30,000 homes. LSG&A performed a detailed evaluation of the existing sound pressure levels along the sites property line and combined it with another evaluation of the total future sound pressure levels with the proposed power plant equipment. The results of the acoustical evaluation were compared to the local noise regulations and recommendations for noise control measures were prepared in order to meet the property line design goals.


Medarex/Bristol-Myers Squibb Generator Relocation

Lewis S. Goodfriend & Associates completed an acoustical evaluation of a generator slated to be relocated from a Medarex facility to a Bristol-Myers Squibb facility. Measurements of the generator were performed at the Medarex location, and projected from the proposed Bristol-Myers Squibb location to the nearest residential and commercial property lines. LSG&A compared the results of the evaluation with the applicable State and local noise regulation, and determined that the existing acoustical enclosure for the generator would be sufficient in the new location, provided that the integrity of the enclosure was not compromised during the move. By keeping the same acoustical enclosure for the generator, the financial impact of the relocation was greatly reduced.

Lewis S. Goodfriend & Associates compled an acoustical analysis of the sound emanating from a spray dryer at International Flavors & Fragrances. Measurements were performed on site, and design goals were established that would only require the use of in-ear sound protection by employees. LSG&A provided sound mitigation recommendations for the spray dryer vibrator system in order to meet the design goals for this project.
